Are the blowers noisy because they are old and worn or because they are inherently noisy? If the former, they might be rehabilitated.

I think the blowers are probably old and worn, but it's possible they've always been loud. They've only been in the house about 10 years. They removed baseboard heaters in the upstairs that the heat pump now heats. I don't remember if there were any baseboard heaters in the lower level. I was thinking some type of smooth electric radiant wall heater would be nice. The other option is that they could install a propane fireplace insert or a pellet stove; they have an unused fireplace. But.....that's another area for me to learn about.
