| I have a 3 zone Carrier split a/c. One of the indoor air handlers is quite large. We don't use it often as the other 2 zones upstairs cool the house quite well. My question is can that indoor air handler be changed to one that is smaller and less obtrusive on the wall? Thanks to all who respond.

| My experience says you can likely change it to a smaller capacity indoor unit. There are some potential pit-falls aside from reducing your cooling or heating capacity. There is a range of indoor unit capacity that is recommended for use with the 3-ton outdoor unit. You might, or might not be able to go lower with than what you have. A smaller capacity indoor unit might not have a smaller case. Some mini split systems have options other than high-wall mounted indoor units. I don't know about Carrier, but Sanyo, Mitsubishi and Toshiba have ceiling cassettes, small air handlers that can be hidden, and under-ceiling air handlers. |
