Inhibitor for iron radiators

Hi,

I've historically read that one should not add anything to hydronic systems - let the dissolved oxygen react, make sure there are no leaks so new water doesn't need to be added, and call it as many years as you can.

But is there any value to adding an inhibitor to a hydronic system with iron pipe and cast iron radiators?

My system is ca. 1920, except the boiler which is a peerless purefire mod/con unit. It has an indirect water heater. All piping and the radiators are iron.

I don't know that there are any leaks, I sure don't think so. I don't have to add water. Still want to do what's best because I'll have the system opened tomorrow for a renovation of one room, so there is an opportunity.

Thanks!
