Help us resolve our A/C debate

Mr. Weedy and I have different ideas on which is the more efficient way to cool a house.

The scenario: Outside temp 60 degrees, inside temp 80 degrees (a/c off, afternoon sun has warmed the house), desired temp 70 degrees.

Do you:
1. Turn the a/c to 70 and let it do it's thing.
2. Open the windows to let some of the cooler outside air "help" the a/c get to the desired temp more quickly.

In other words, if you open a window, does the cool air come in or does the newly cooled air escape?
