| I have a 30 yr old White-Rodgers analog thermostat running heat and central air. The label inside the cover says "Class 2" and 30VAC. It has one switch for HEAT/COOL/OFF and one for fan AUTO/ON. Will any of the major brand programmables be compatible placements? All the wiring is hidden and I don't want to remove the old one until I have a replacement in hand for fear it will give up the ghost if disturbed. |

| You should be able to buy an off the shelf thermostat from a big box store. I have had success replacing my old mercury thermostats with a programmable Honeywell thermostat. If you have a heat pump, then you have to select a thermostat which compatible. Most brands have installation manuals on line. You can read the manual before buying the thermostat to make sure it will work. |
