Was a load calculation done?
The trane ac looks like a 2.5 ton and the Comfort a 3 ton a/c.
Which one is the second dealer favoring?

I am not sure if they did a load calculation. The Rheem & Trane are from the same dealer.

He is in Lancaster County, PA. The furnace is 90% eff. It is a Trane XE90. He is not sure of the BTU. I am guessing it is 80,000 BTU. Where would he look to find that info? I believe he has a cracked ___????______ in his furnace. It is too dangerous to run.

The AC he is replacing is a Trane XE1000 10 SEER unit. He didn't know how many tons it is, but it is probably 3 tons. Sorry that he couldn't tell me some of the specifics. Thank you for your help, Tiger.

The Trane 2-stage variable speed furnace would be my first choice followed by the Rheem. The Carrier Comfort model is really not equivalent to these models so it is not a fair comparison.

I am not sure if a 2.5 ton condenser is sufficient for an 1800 sq. foot house. It would depend on what temperature your brother likes to set his thermostat in the summer. I wouldn't commit to 2.5 tons without seeing a load calculation.

I agree with Mike.

The Trane would be my first choice. I would want a two stage thermostat for that furnace. I would want a whole house filter media cabinet. Trane's perfect fit model would be my choice. I would want a 3 ton condenser. Preferably system would qualify for Fed Tax Credit.
