Any Reviews/Feedback on Daikin HVAC (Dallas)

Anyone install a Daikin HVAC system yet?

We are in Dallas and are still evaluating a new (replacement) system and stumbled across them in our research. We asked one of the dealers we are speaking with for a quote on their 4-ton
DX16TC A/C unit & an 80% AFUE 2-stage gas furnace.

Curious if they have made their way out in the residential market much yet.

Can't find much feedback online.

Thanks.

The are Goodman/Amana systems. Daikin bought Goodman out a while back. They were previously better know for minisplits. Nothing wrong with them if they are installed correctly.

Did you end up going with the Daikin? I'm considering the Daikin DX16TX as well as the Lennox XC16 and it's hard to find feedback/reviews to help me decide between the two.

If quotes are close you are either giting a deal on Lennnox or gouged on Dalkin. If you are in same area as op get bids for Trane/Bryant and Carrier. They cost more than Dalkin but wort the difference. Cheaper than Lennox and as good ,better by some accounts.

good to know, thanks for the feedback! The quotes are pretty close... maybe $400 more for lennox per unit and we are getting 2. but the Daikin installer can offer 10% discount for cash. which is a pretty big motivator. but, I definitely want quality too and the lennox installer offers a killer warranty.

Ask the installers a lot of questions. A well installed Goodman/Amana/Daikin system will outlive and outperform a poorly installed Lennox system (and vice versa).

i 100% agree skin77. Lennox gets a lot of bad reviews from techs and I think i understand why. At least in the DFW area, many Lennox replacements parts has to come from a dealer. A sharp tech combined with knowledgable parts counter can do an end around to avoid buying parts from Lennox but we know how often that's the case. Trane/bryant and Carrier are heavly repersented and supported in installation and equipment. Historicly Lennox as a whole were well installed by dealers whereas the other brands support your observation about installer being more important than equipment brand.

Seeing the newest Train and Lennox units it seems they are visually more lighter weight and less quality than years back. I personally know Train spends lots of $ on entertaining their dealers and families with cruises, casino trips and such instead of putting that money towards value for their consumers. At present it looks like Daikin is gaining momentum in the US.

A huge warehouse in Houston, Tx is currently being built by Daikin for parts distribution. The only thing I would worry about now is finding a dealer qualified to properly install their units. I would think this will be a non issue when more dealers start handling and receive training on Diakin equipment.

" I personally know Train spends lots of $ on entertaining their dealers and families with cruises, casino trips and such instead of putting that money towards value for their consumers."

Please explain what you consider a better way of "putting money towards value for consumers" than maintaining tenured and happy employees. Since we are talking about Texas here, most of you have likly seen tv ads by Milestone Electric and Baker Brothers Plumbing. Both spend money on their employees and their families, have next to no turn over and employees that stand head and shoulders above the rest out in the field..

That's exactly what I thought you had in mind Jack,,,,,,if and if. Something all those in the business agree on,average equipment with good installations are better than the most expensive equipment with hap-hazard installs every time. Who's more likly to do good installs, people beat down and under paid or those consistantly shown apperciation?

'Offering a dependable product at a competitive price to the dealer should be far superior than sending them on cruises etc.'

The manufacturer is there to sell equipment, that is how they make the bulk of their money. The more a dealer sells for the manufacturer, the more the wheel is greased. It always becomes about money or what you will get for what you do when it comes to a major brand piece of equipment. It really comes down to what a companies motivation is... working for the sake of your customers or bilking them.

Pretty much every major brand is influenced this way. But you know people are people and many are influenced by the name on the sticker to one degree or another. There is value and then there is 'perceived' value.

What is dependable? What is competitive? What is properly installed?

When things have no true definition or meaning people wind up comparing apples to oranges and bananas.

Austin AC,I know the answers to all three questions you pose,I thought you at least knew what properly installed is. ^_^ Actually I believe 90% of the time when consumers fail to get value for the dollar it's not a manufactureing shortcoming,it's greed or inepetmess of dealer, service dept, installer or others between mfg and consumer. And that doesn't only apply to air conditioning. I'd do consumers a dis-service if I failed to give them deserved credit. Examples, gun manufactures are not responsible for high crime neighborhoods, car manufactures are not responsible if someone buys a pick up or suv then turn's it over driveing it like a sports car.

Surprised this thread popped up 2 years after I posted it but we went with Trane through deadlier we have used in the past with a service contract who also installed new ducts (moved to attic from hallways soffits) & registers and are very happy with our choice. No issues.
