New AC System/Basement Odor in House

Hoping someone can help. I had a brand new forced-air Trane AC system installed last May. Also, a new furnace, gas.

The house has never had AC.

From the gitgo, when the AC is run, the house smells, I think like the basement. I do have a mega dehumidifier running down there, which runs 24/7 and empties itself. My basement is one of those old (1880) basements with a dirt floor and fieldstone walls, and then there is a 3-4 ft. crawlspace extending from there, through which the ductwork runs. The crawlspace is closed off from the basement.

The smell does not occur when the heat is on, and it never did with heat (i.e.: before AC was installed).

Crawlspace has a vapor barrier, also put in last spring, and the ductwork was wrapped in insulation.

Does anyone have any idea what this is/what could be causing this? I rent my house, mostly in the summer, and I can't have it smelling when the AC is on. It is not a dead animal, btw. It's not a stench, per se, but also not a field of wildflowers.
