both of these are nice systems and comparable to each other.

in fact, the Carrier system has better performance/efficiency numbers.

I would want Carrier's Edge Thermidistat over the HW thermostat.

I would ask for staged heat strips.

You might also consider a 4-5" whole house pleated filter media cabinet.

I would let dealer reputation, warranty, and your confidence with the dealer be your guide in selection. I do recommend that you only use FAD-Factory Authorized Dealers.

I'm really baffled by all the different thermostats. Is the Edge just as good as the Infinity Control?

The Infinity controller is simply the best on the residential market.

However, you would need to upgrade your air handler to the Infinity model to accept the Infinity controller. For both pieces of hardware upgrade, I would expect an additional cost minimum $750-1000. You would have to determine whether the additional cost is worth it.

ask dealer to provide upgrade option cost.

Does the 4" pleated media filter go where my current bar style return register is or does it go on the return plenum of the blower? I'm interested in anything that can cut down on dust but don't feel I need the fancy electrostatic filter since I don't have allergy issues. Are these called MERV filters?

What advantages does the infinity control have over what the Performance would have with the Edge thermostat?
