Whole House air filters

Hi,

I'm building a new home and have asked for a quote on a Trane whole house 5" Perfect Fit media filter. My home is 3516sf so I'll have two blowers and will need two units I think. I'm still new to all the options here so help figure out if this makes sense for me.

* If I have a whole house air filter, then will I still need filters in the return air vents?

* If so, then will I still need to clean them monthly?

* How does a whole house air filter compare to high-MERV air return filters? Would my money be better spent with those?
