Is a VARIABLE air handler necessary?

Good morning.

I was quoted on a Carrier heat pump/air handler that includes the Carrier Performance 25HPA536 (is that the same as the 25HPA536H31?) and the FX4DWF043 air handler.
This air handler is not variable speed, and some suggested the FV4CN(B,F)005 in its place.

If the compressor is not not a 2 speed or variable compressor and the 25HPA536 is not, but rather has a 5 speed motor which I am told is different than a variable or 2 speed compressor, do I need or would I want to have a variable speed air handler? Why?

Thank you!

I had that same model HP installed last month with a VS Furnace/air handler. It works great with the Infinity controls and does an excellent job on controlling humidity.

If an installer says a single speed HP will not work with a VS air handler, think I'd find another installer.
