Radiant heat help please...new here!

| I usually post over on the kitchens forum, but we are remodeling an entire house, and need help with our heat system (or lack thereof!)
Remodeling a 1950's ranch in upstate NY (nice & cold in the winter!). Previous heating system was baseboard, which they had on every single wall in the house (no joke - every wall in the house had a baseboard heater!). Concrete block construction and a fully finished walk out basement, with access to floor above. We have a boiler (20 years old) and the house has AC in the "attic" which we are keeping.
We've gutted the house, ripped out all the old baseboard, and are just getting quotes for radiant heat...needless to say it is pricey! First guy wants to use a Weil Mcrain 95% 105k but boiler, and for 3 zones radiant heat for upstairs and 1 zone baseboard for basement we are looking at $22,500. Is this normal/high/low? The other quote we got was around $25k but company wouldn't give any specifics yet on how they are going to do it...we're not going with them!
Any/all feedback would be helpful! THANKS! |

| You ripped out the old heating system before you investigated costs for a new system? Not good. You don't mention how large your house is, but a 1950s ranch, say about 1,500 to 2,000 square feet... Acutally, that price sounds like a decent price. I've seen it cost FAR more to install radiant in an existing home. |

| Well...the old baseboard heat had to be removed anyway because of all the rooms we were changing around, and it was very inefficiently laid out. Our home is 2100 sf on the main level; another 2100 in the basement. Thanks for the responses! |
Anyone else?
