The major difference between the two are the proprietary top and the extra 2 yr warranty on the compressor you get on the XLi series.

Make certain you get a true two stage thermostat for the XV95 furnace. Anything less defeats the purpose as you will always go to high stage heat whether needed or not. A furnace set up on a timer or a thermostat that uses a software algorithm is simply not acceptable.

Plus depending on location, I would want independent dehumidify on demand set up for AC cooling.

Thank You Tiger. Would you happen to have a estimated figure on the price difference? Are we talking about a few hundred dollars or more in the 1,000's. He did say he wouldn't recommend a 2 stage AC unit for my house but he could install it if I wanted it. I didn't ask for a price after he mentioned that. Also, they offer the XL 800's thermostats. Would the XL 802 be sufficient enough for a 2 Stage furnace?

Not to be curt but that's your job, not mine. I will say if you can get the XL16i for $500 or less, then it's worth considering.

One other difference I failed to mention, the XL16i has 2 stage cooling, I believe the XR16 is only single stage. Dealer should verify. Trane has been confusing on the XR16 model.

the XL802 is not acceptable. I would recommend HW Prestige 2.0
