Radiant Heat on two floors of a ranch home?

Posted by shelly_k (My Page) on

Anyone done the hydronic radiant heat in the lower level and main level of a ranch home? I live in the Midwest and I know several friends who have radiant heat in their basements and mentioned that the forced air heat doesn't run much on the main floor b/c of the heat in the basement. So I'm wondering if it is worth it to do the heat on both floors or if it is kind of a waste.

I would like to have the tiled areas heated on the main floor (2 1/2 bathrooms and a larger mudroom) and if we don't do the hydronic radiant heat, we would do the electric mats.

What do you think?
