For all practical purposes, these are identical systems. While the furnace model is XV80 and the same size in BTUs, the difference is the physical size of the furnace along with the rated blower size. Not wanting to get down any further in the weeds, the second option is the way to go because the performance/eff numbers are better and it qualifies for Fed Tax Credit.

Dealer will need to set the furnace blower up correctly for a 3 ton system.

I do recommend a true two stage thermostat. Anything less cripples the capability of this nice furnace.

Also, I would want a pleated filter media cabinet and I recommend Trane's Perfect Fit.

I would hope your ductwork system has been inspected and you have adequate return air. Any hot/cold spots in your home should be pointed out and addressed by dealer.

A very nice system if sized correctly and best for your location/climate.

One more tip:This may not apply in your case but check to see if the larger unit will physically fit outside in the space allocated,kieep in mind residence require ten inches between the unit and the side of the house.My 3.5 ton is huge compared to the 2.5 it is replacing.

Why would u upsize from a 2.5t unit to a 3.5t unit?
