Running!!

Spartans

Hi everyone, I am having a problem with brand new
Heat pump. I am running ac and it keeps cycling, I am
Avg 8 min. On and 13 min. Off. The new heat pump
Is the same size I had before which never cycled
Like this. I am wondering if the thermostat is set to cycle
To many times. Could this be the problem?

The cycle time would be approximately 20 minutes which would be three cycles per hour. That is a good setting.

Have you tried closing the closest register to the thermostat? Your new heat pump is probably putting out colder air than your old unit. The thermostat could be shutting off too soon if it is getting a blast of cold air.

I thought the same thing and closed the
Nearest reg, no luck. I thought a heat pump needed
To run at least 15 min. To be efficient. Am I allowed
To change the cph setting or will this mess with
    The warranty?
If I am allowed how do I do it? I have a honeywell
    Prestige 2.0

If the heat pump is brand new, then why not have the HVAC contractor see what can be done. Perhaps your blower speed is set too high.

I have them coming out tues. just wondering what it was
The air handler is dual speed all I ever hear is full
Blast except when it first starts

If you have a 2-stage heat pump then you need a true 2-stage thermostat in order to control the stages properly. You may also have a problems with the air flow setting for each stage.

    I have a lennox xp14 with a lennox cbx32mv air handler
I believe that is a one stage pump but a multi speed
    Air handler

    At what thermostat setting?

    At what outdoor temperature?

How is your home's inside humidity?

Cycling is not bad depending on conditions and if system is correctly sized...

    IMO

    76 set temp
    86 out side temp
    Hum is under 50% inside
    Hum is 84% outside

I have 2.5 tons like I had on the original system
That never cycled so quick. I thought cycling
Less then 15 minutes was not good. By the way
Thermostat is always set at 76 and the system
Kicks on even when the inside temp is the same. Also
The system always runs for a 8 min avg no matter
    The temp or humidity level.

As long as humidity is under 50% RH, you should be fine.

Do you mind sharing your location?

You might want to take a reading of your supply temperature and your return temperature. I always want to know the split.

You might want to check the thermostat setting of CPH. It sounds like three. You could move it down to 2 which should increase your runtime. I personally like to see runtime at 10-12 minutes but it appears you are getting satisfactory dehumidification.

Any idea if dehumidify on demand is set up on the IAQ?

I do think you should find out what the CPH setting is.

That 55 setting should be dropped to at least 50..,

Get you IAQ operator manual out to know how to adjust both humidity and CPH setting.

I took a quick look at the installation manual. The factory default CPH is 3. I would be surprised if the installer made any changes, but it doesn't hurt to check.

My question would be how much does the temperature have to rise from the set point before the AC will turn on. You should be able to adjust this, but I fear you cannot with this thermostat. I seems to have a built in algorithm to adjust the amount of variation from the set point. Perhaps the algorithm is not smart enough to handle the conditions in your house and causing it to short cycle.

    Find it
