The FE4ANF002 you've been quoted is an approved match for the 25HNA936 outdoor unit. The FE4ANF005 unit td suggests is also an approved match and yields higher efficiency numbers. Both air handlers support 3 ton outdoor units. However the 002 may have been selected due to physical size constraints. The 002 is much smaller than the 005 model.

The Rudd system is a great system with demand defrost.

the Rudd is a nice system. It has demand defrost which is much nicer than Carrier's time defrost. It will require their proprietary communicating thermostat.

a haircut on heating BTUs at 45 degree compared to Carrier. see below.

Thanks for the info! Definitely helpful. The RUD is cheaper by $1000 and I trust the installer since I have used him before. The only thing is that he guarantees the labor for 2 years vs 10 year labor for the Carrier series.
