Joint Refrigerant Lines - City Multi

Dear all,
I'm running into trouble with the installation of a 36k City Multi system. These are my parts..
PUMY-P36NHMUR4-BS
PKFY-P08NHMU-E2
PKFY-P12NHMU-E2
PKFY-P15NHMU-E2

The 12k and 15k units have been installed back to back on the two sides of the same wall to cool our bedroom and living room. My understanding is that each unit requires a pair of copper pipes for the refrigerant, so 3 zones should equal 6 pipes total going to the condenser. Correct?
The installer instead has joined the 4 pipes coming from these two units into just 2 (see picture) right on the wall, to then reach the condenser (which is about 20 feet away) with just two copper pipes instead of 4.
Is that common practice? Isn't that going to reduce the maximum cooling/heating capacity of each indoor unit?
I'm eager to get this fixed while the wall is still open, so I really hope some of you can offer a bit of advice on this.
Thanks in advance,
Sergio
