I'm looking at a new 5 ton System..

I have prices for the XR13 with the GAM5 air handler that is 13.75 SEER

And a XR15 with the GAM5 air handler that is 14 SEER, and is 350.00 more?

Is there any difference in these condensers that warrants the extra cost?

here are the performance/eff numbers on the 5 ton XR13 and XR15 paired with GAM5 air handler.

    4150902 Active Systems XR13 TRANE 4TTR3060D1 GAM5A0C60M51 58500 11.00 13.75

    4150923 Active Systems XR15 TRANE 4TTR5060E1 GAM5A0C60M51 56000 11.50 14.00

I would say under this comparison the XR15 is not worth it.

However, if good dehumidification is important to your area/climate, then I would want the var speed air handler.
    see below.

    4385366 Active Systems XR15 TRANE 4TTR5060E1 *AM7A0C60H51 57000 12.00 14.50

    4385368 Active Systems XR15 TRANE 4TTR5061E1 *AM7A0C60H51 57500 13.00 16.00

The second choice is two stg with var speed air handler and has the best numbers.

I still would consider the HP version. But if you are intent on going with AC with heat strip, I would definitely want the heat strip staged.

    IMO

you should ask about the TAM7. to the dealer, the wholesale cost is only several humdred dollars more.

Can anyone tell me more about how the TAM7 will work with the XR13 or XR15?
Is it variable speed all the time? Does it only run on low when it needs to or high when it needs to?

you have rec'd good info on the other forum about the var speed air handler.

besides the quiet operation, it does help with humidity control. and if humidity is a big concern, you can include a thermostat that allows for "dehumidify on demand" feature.

For your location/climate, I think it would be a better choice than the high eff TAM5 mdl air handler.

Anybody know if the TAM7 will match up with the HoneyWell Prestige Hd Thermostat and work well? They want an arm and leg for the new TZone 950 thermostat and relay panel
