All the units I am familiar with have fan settings, but they just blow air in from outside ... Window-mounted (or in-wall) air conditioners do not pull outside air into the room unless there is a "fresh air" damper control (companion to "exhaust).

That's what my grandmother thought, that her window a/c pulled in (and cooled) outside air, which was her complaint about her house being dusty for being next to a crop field. I never was able to convince her otherwise.

The air from the unit's output grill, whether on a cool, heat, or fan setting, is air already in the room that's drawn through the front intake grill, filter and coil, and blown back into the room.

Very little outdoor is drawn in on units that do have a "fresh air" control.

Anyway, regards to the "exhaust" function, some units do have the damper control but again only a small portion of the outflow air is diverted to the exhaust port. There were a few units/brands years ago with a "power exhaust" feature that allowed the air directional louvers on the output grill to be fully closed so as to divert the majority of the output air through the exhaust port, but I doubt that feature is available nowadays due to EnergyStar considerations.

You'll do better running a fan out a window.
