building a gas furnace closet or enclosure?

We're getting an unenclosed retrofit into the corner of an 1880s adobe house's zaguan (wide hallway, best spot to put the furnace).

I'm totally not worried about the 18" mud walls catching on fire, and one "wall" is really a door, but what is the recommended way to build the other wall?
