Cooling in apartment w/ window A/C ban?

Hi, I just moved into a new apartment without central A/C only to find that the village has a ban on window units. There are in-wall units in the living room and the other bedroom, but not mine. It's shaping up to be another horribly humid Chicago summer, so fans along aren't going to cut it. Any advice on maybe hiding the exhaust on a floorstanding A/C, or something that doesn't require outside exhaust?

There are portable units that vent through a hose to a window.
