Compressor not turning off

Hubby was fixing outside AC unit and son mixed wires (blue and black hot feeds?) when hubby hooked up and turned on power it popped - he shut breaker off - rewired correctly - now fan motor kicks on automatically and wont shut off with thermostat - runs continuously unless u pull breaker - any ideas ..suggestions...fixes
