Trane Heat Pump System Selection

I am replacing my existing 2 ton HP and inside air handler. I've decided to install a Trane unit. However, at this point, I am confused as to what to install. I have gotten quotes from 3 local Trane installers and don't know if they are suitable, designed properly, or keep looking. I'm looking for a good system that will work properly and everyone (installer and me) is happy with the job/price.

Here is the info.
I plan to go with 410A instead of R22
all dealers will replace gas and liquid lines

Dealer 1
Trane XR14 T4TWR4024A1000A
Air Handler 4TEE3F31B1000!
controller - not specified
10 kw electric heat
Honeywell Focus Pro 6000
one year warranty on parts and labor then Trane parts warranty

Dealer 2
Trane XR13 T4TWR3024A1000
Air Handler T4TEC3F24B1000A
10 kw backup heat
Trane TCONT802A controller
5 years parts and labor warranty through dealer

Dealer 3
Trane XL15i 4TWX5024
Air Handler 4TEE
10 kw electric backup
Trane TCONT802A controller
one year parts and labor warranty then Trane parts warranty

Difference in cost:
Dealer 1: lowest cost
Dealer 2 : $600 higher than Dealer 1
Dealer 3: $800 higher than Dealer 1

1. Which system should I go with?
2. Any problems with the combination of HP and air handler?. Should I get an extended warranty directly from Trane? Anyone know how much it would cost? Is it worth the money?
3. Thermostat selection: good or get different model/type?
4. Anything else you might suggest?

Thanks for everyone's help.

I would go with #2 if you can get the variable speed 4TEE air handler instead of the 4TEC or #3. For #2, you should be getting a Trane warranty as well I assume. Something to consider: the Honeywell VisionPRO IAQ thermostat (I believe this would be the Trane XL900)--it's very similar (in fact looks the same except for the Trane logo) as the Trane TCONT802 but can slow the blower down to dehumidify. Trane's Comfort-R is nice alone, but I like the ability to dehumidify/ramp the blower down.

Dealer 1 is offering an older A1 version of the XR14. The configuration below offers the best performance numbers for the XR14,C1 version which you want.

1382135 Active OEM XR14 WEATHERTRON TRANE 4TWR4024C1 4TEE3F39A1 24000 13.00 15.00 24000 9.00 12500

1382247 Active OEM XR14 WEATHERTRON TRANE 4TWR4024C1 4TEE3F31B1 24600 13.00 15.00 24000 8.60 13900

Dealer 2-I would not have the XR13 model. This model is light in heating BTUs.

Dealer 3-The XL15i is overall the best of the three choices and obviously the most expensive.

1382158 Active OEM XL15I WEATHERTRON TRANE 4TWX5024A1 4TEE3F39A1 25000 13.00 16.00 24000 9.00 13800

1383391 Active OEM XL15I WEATHERTRON TRANE 4TWX5024A1 4TEE3F31B1 25200 13.00 15.25 24000 8.60 13900

You want a thermostat that controls the blower speed for best dehumdification in cooling. My selection would be the Honeywell Vision Pro IAQ or perhaps the new Trane 900 series. Do not accept anything else.

I believe the XL15i offers a rebate-ask the dealer.

And because you are changing refrigerants, you should insist on a new and properly sized lineset.

Do you mind stating area of country you live? I assume you are certain a 2 ton is correct size. What are you doing about air quality-you have a central return?
