| So I've gone round and round many time with several local vendors and responses have been all over the place. From a 3.5 ton to a 5 ton unit. Given all this my question is really straight forward and I won't bore you all with questions around sizing as I've read a LOT of threads on that topic. What I'm looking for is dollars advice. Is this quote a fair price or is this guy really ripping me off. Take note that I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and prices are typically inflated to begin with. The quote is for the units AND full ducting replacemet and return supply replacement.. Here it is.. the house is a 2000 sqft and I may decide to increase this to 2300 within the next 3 years.

there are rebates involved that total around 1k |

| The $1k will never cover the additional price of highee efficient equipment in a mild climate. You area is one place that the variable furnace may be justified for quality of conditioning. Don't expect to have a rapid payback. If fact don't expect a return to justify the equipment during the lifespan of the proposed equipment. The price sounds high for SF. I would expect $7-9k in Dallas, maybe $10k in SF, for a 5-ton system. |
