Greenspeed in Montreal area

Hi all,

I'm currently thinking about replacing my whole HVAC system with the Greenspeed from Carrier, and I read many posts about noise issues in colder climates as here in eastern Canada.

It seems that some of the posters who report loud noises were not aware of this issue at the time of signing the contract; has the issue been resolved for most of you? If so, what particular actions were taken? I've read among other things that reducing the max compressor RPM could help reduce the noise a bit.

I'm getting quotes for a 4- ton unit for a 3300-ish sq ft, 2-story house.

At least, the two dealers I've got quotes from are being honest and say that this kind of noise (high pitch at high RPM) is to be expected when it gets cold...

The price tag is quite high and being bothered that much by a loud noise is very sad, IMO. Carrier could have probably done a better job on this.

Any comments on the matter from people living around here (Ontario, Quebec, maritimes) would be truly appreciated!

Nick
