Replace evep coil or the whole unit

My York system upstair is about 10 years old and freon leaks terribly. Air is not cooling at all. I have a couple of companies to check and two companies said evap coil leaks and there was one said the outside unit leaks. Should I just try to replace evap coil which costs about $1900 or replace evap coil and outside unit ($4500) or the whole unit (Amana $8000). I am waiting for a quote for Lennox too. Any help here is much appreciated.

assuming the diagnosis is correct, then it would be foolish to spend up to $2K for evap coil only replacement on a 10 yr system.

if you go this route, guess what? you still have a 10 yr old system.

what is your location?

Here in Texas. I got a quote for Lennox XC-21 and SLP280UH for $8k. Is ASX-18 AMANA is comparible to XC-21. The dealer said he could give me the same price for either one. Which one would you recommend. Thanks!

$8K for replacement is very high for my part of NC.
