Central AC Installation

Hi All...this is my first post.

Just checking the reasonableness of an AC quote.
We do not currently have central AC so we are having it installed from square 1. House is approximately 3700 sq ft.
The quote we are receiving is for a Trane XL18i condenser with a Trane Hyperion Variable Speed 3 ton air handler. There will be 2 zones on the upstairs level (The upstairs is very long) and 1 zone for the main floor. The upstairs will have 2 new hard wired thermostats installed and the downstairs will have a wireless remote. There will be 5 drops coming from upstairs and 2 returns placed in the "two" hallways upstairs.
The net investment after discounts and Trane rebates is
$19,600. (This quote also includes an upgrade to the Aprilaire Model 2310 air filtration device).
Obviously, this is a lot of money, but I do trust the company and the owner. I felt that they were very thorough in their assessment of the house and the cooling needs.

Is the air handler going to be installed in the attic? What is the area split between the first and second floors? What is your location? Did the contractor do a cooling load calculation and review it with you?

Post the list of all the equipment model numbers in your quote.

are you sure it is 1 three ton system?
not one system per floor?
sounds like too much sq ft per ton...(I don't
think I've ever said that)...and it is an existing home.

you don't get houses tight enough, & insulated enough
for 1,300 (approx) sq ft per ton. you might get
the house ready for that...but it would take work & $$.
just saying.

often 2 zone is one hvac system per floor..not a true
zoned system...one system with multiple t-stats.
this should be clarified...

first time install is going to be more costly due to adding
ducts...cutting ceilings for supply/return..platform & elec
in attic ...all those things that add time.

load calc?
