Seeking suggestions for proactive replacement

Hey guys,

Just wanted to back-up a bit from my previous post. I am trying to do a proactive upgrade/replacement on my 15 year old dual zone (up and down) system. I don't have the funds to replace everything but considering the below two options and have received a couple quotes:

1) upstairs complete system (outside AC, coils, furnace, etc)
2) up and down -- but only outside AC and coils for both

Background - both systems have been mostly trouble free for 15 years. I have some funding available now to address approx. 50% of the system and maybe the balance in a year or two. I have been told by at least one vendor that the life of the outside units is roughly 15 years +/- but that the life of the inside units might be another 5 years +/- longer.

I am looking for some improved efficiency, comfort and a little piece of mind. As mentioned, the units have been basically trouble free to this point but I know I am living on borrowed time. The units seem pretty well matched to my house, don't seem to short cycle but the upstairs is typically a bit warmer than down but expect that some of this is normal.

I live in the Raleigh, NC area.

What would you recommend between choice 1 and 2 and why?
