Sound proof a wall with Cellulose - studs only 1 5/8"

Hey,

I have an apartment which I would like to reduce the amount of sound coming in from my neighbors.... I'd prefer not to remove the existing sheetrock or put another layer of sound proofing material over the existing sheet rock. Instead, I prefer to go with blowing cellulose into the walls. However the studs are on 1 & 5/8" wide.... and the rental blowers have 3" wide tubes. Am I crazy.... is it even worth blowing cellulose into a 1 5/8" space or is it a waste of time, I figure if it does nothing - I can add another layer of sheetrock. If you think it's worth a go..... how should I blow the material into the space.... do I get a 1.5 inch tube and connect it to the 3" tube or do I just cut a 3" hole into the top of the wall and let the cellulose fall?

Thanks,
Mark
