What are the model number(s) of the indoor equipment? It is possible that the combination is rated at 15 SEER.

You can get 15 seer or even a higher SEER rating with the right coil and furnace. You need to ask for the AHRI number and verify it at http://www.ari.org/ they are the standard for SEER rating to see if hes being honest.

I did a quick search on the AHRI directory using your heat pump model and size. There are a few configurations which achieve a 15 SEER rating. Here is one of them:

5187566 Active Systems 14HPX SERIES LENNOX INDUSTRIES, INC. 14HPX-048-230-18 CBX27UH-048-230*+TDR 1600 49500 12.70 15.00 47500 9.20 30600

This match had good numbers and uses a Lennox air handler and coil. There are others that use third party equipment.

Get a copy of the AHRI Directory certificate for your equipment. This will have the AHRI number which can be confirmed on the directory web site. It will list the model numbers and ratings for heating and cooling.

HPX is cheap low end condenser typical for new construction...i beleve it's made South of the border...not a fan of Lennox but would at least move up to XP series...

Cost difference should be inconsequential to dealer, probably not to the homeowner...I would ask though...
