Cleaning air with what setting?

Hi - allergies are horrid right now and I want to get the air moving through the filter but I don't want to spend a fortune. I read that the Circulation setting is bad for this. I also have Auto and Fan settings. Does Fan help circulate fresh air or regular air through the filter or do I need to turn the AC on?

RE: Cleaning air with what setting?

Typical HAC systems do not bring in fresh air. Constant circulation is costly in terms of electricity to drive the blower. If you are in an environment with any kind of humidity, and you are cooling, your indoor humidity levels will likely go up to excessive levels. (That would wipe me out with my type of allergies and it is not good for your house either.) Running the blower can actually bring in more allergens if you have leaky ducts that run outside of the building envelope. A typical HVAC filter is not likely to do anything to help your allergies. The jury is out on other types of filters for this purpose.

What kind of filter do you have? Where do you live? What are you allergic to?
