Replacing furnace blower motor for a BDP carrier centrl home heat

Does $525.00 for replacing the blower motor with a new one for a BDP Carrier gas furnace sound resonable?

After tracking the reason for bad odor coming through the vents, I noticed that even though the furnace is lit, the motor tries to start but wouldn't.

I changed the start/run capacitor to the motor (5 uFd - 370 VAC - 60 Hz). Still motor wouldn't start. It tires with a humming noise. Appeas to be over loaded.

Any suggestion to isolate the problem?

I had a service company look at it. Motor looks like a 1/4 HP motor. They say the motor needs to be replaced and it will cost $525.00. Does it sound reasonable cost for the job?

On the furnace product info it is written:
BDP company, a divison of Carrier corporation
model: 39GAD048125
product: 39GAD048125ABEA
serial: 2184A07115

If I can get a replacement motor I guess I can do it myself...

thats the whole secret vsrajg,,,, do you have a source for a replacement motor. Its a pretty common motor and they don't cost much at all, the thing is if you removed it is there a place you can go to get a new one? With a little luck you might find one on the net but do you really feel like waiting in a cold house till it get there. The price may be a little on the steep side,,, just how important is it though to get your heat back on "soon"?

mr.hivac,
I guess when one is with out heat in winter, looks like there is no choice. Need to have the heat back as soon as possible. Can wait for two days at the most.

To bad it couldn't live another month or two huh? The worse would have probably been over. You could try oiling it, on rare occasions this works not as a fix but buys you some time to get over the price shock. Might be worth a try.
