Gas wall furnace not in use - heat escape ?

H- I have a small apartment and choose not to use the gas furnace. Cooking heat and occasional use of an oil radiator suffices. I'm wondering if heat escapes through the furnace and it's vent to the roof ? Should I get some sort of cover for it ? - Thanks, Brian

if you get into the top panel that is open to the stack you can put some insulation in there so heat won't go up the stack. Just make sure you do not use it this way. Paul
