I live in a very cold environment (Montreal).

I am putting in a new Honeywell thermostat and realized that my electric furnace is capable of doing 2 stage but is hard wired for 1 stage.

I am wondering if it makes a difference if I already have a heatpump, which is much more efficient in warmer weather then a 2 stage furnace anyhow.

My logic is that the heat pump is active until about -10C and then the furnace kicks in full blast. At that point I don't care about the 2 stage since heat pump already covered the warmer period and now need it going full blast since its very cold outside,

Or is my logic wrong?

By going to 2 stage + Heat Pump..
Will I see a comfort benefit?
Will I see a cost savings?
