Geothermal - Auxiliary Heat Times Out and Won't Start

I am hopeful someone can help me determine why my backup auxiliary heat (gas furnace) will not start when needed as my geothermal determines it cannot keep up with the heat level to be maintained in our home. For example, we normally set our temp to 66 at night and have no issues (runs on geo all night), however, when we awake we like to set it to 68 for daytime which after a certain amount of time causes the unit to engage the auxiliary heat - unfortunately, whenever this occurs I can hear the gas furnace attempting to fire up but seems to "wind up" and then begins flashing lights and winds back down. I then have to kill power to the furnace/thermostat for everything to reset so that at least Geothermal heat works again. The oddity of it all is that it seems to fire and work if I simply engage Emergency Heat directly from my thermostat, it only seems to not work when being engaged from Geothermal. Thanks for any suggestions/help!
