Thanks! It sure looks like the snake cotton pics, except for the purple color in the flowers, but it looks like there are many many varieties.

I don't think it's Platycodon; I love balloon flowers and I'd remember that I'd planted it there if that were it. A local nursery identified it generically as a weed, and one with a long root. They said to dig deep to get it out. I'd still like to know what it is; now that I'm aware of it , I see it all over, so it probably is a weed. Perhaps I'll let one go and post again when it's bigger.

We can’t judge the size because there’s no scale but it’s still a doughnut peach. There’s nothing else it could be.
