In our kitchen remodel, we ended up gaining more ovens. We now have three ovens, and I find I use them quite frequently. In fact, I find that more ovens are a lot more useful than more burners. Knowing what I know now, I'd happily give up all but two of my burners, rather than giving up even one of my ovens. It takes a little while to learn how to efficiently use ovens in cooking. But you then discover how much time and labor they can save. The other thing that I learned is that small ovens are much more useful than big ovens. They preheat faster and they take up less valuable space. We have a large oven in our 30" Bluestar range (I love the amazing broiler which gets a ton of use in our household!). But the two other ovens are a 24" Miele CSO (must get one! it's awesome!) and a 24" Miele SpeedOven. I also find that 12" of space next to the range is useless. 20" is still a little tight, but you can adjust to that. 30" would be my preference, if I was in your situation. And for baking, I love having a big open counter somewhere. We have a wide and extra deep counter for this exact purpose, and it makes a huge difference when rolling out dough. It's also helpful for making pasta dough. So, this leaves you with a couple of options. Get a range with a couple of smaller built-in ovens. The LaCanche models always felt really attractive to me for this exact reason. Or downsize at least one of the wall ovens. You could also do what we did and get a 30" range, so that you both save space and gain a full-size oven. And then complement with 24" wall oven(s). Maybe, post a floor plan and ask for more detailed advice on how to lay out your kitchen?

I like the chairs you have but frankly this looks like an office with 4 matching chairs. Notice the 2 x 2 chair layout with bench and sofa in the post from @calidesign. Balance, visual interest and color. No dentist office vibes there.

Wow! For the record, I wasn’t posting a ‘rate my floor plan’. I am not so hard headed that I can’t receive advice, consider alternatives, or answer questions. From reading the responses, it seems our bathroom is so terrible that no one can even give input on how to address the questions I listed in my first post. I find it hard to believe it is so bad as that! Meanwhile only one person has said they have a counter such as I am asking about. I also never said I was unwilling to change things around, just that I didn’t think a simple swap of vanities would work. I even included a bigger view of the adjoining areas to show it would not be as simple as that. What even would you have me tell my architect? That some random people on the internet think her design could be better? I could spend my time trying to justify why we didn’t put the long vanity on the opposite side of the room, or under a window, or why I will be including a toilet room. And then you would either understand why we have come to this design, or you would tear my entire home apart. If you have ever built a home, especially a design from scratch custom home, you know that it is like putting puzzle pieces together. We all have our lists of must haves, wish items, and constraints of design and budget, and time. At some point you just have to decide to be finished. I actually never said I was in the design phase. Walls are not up yet, but none of you ever asked where we were in the build process. I’m an introvert and sensitive person who has had a pretty traumatic last year and a half. It’s taken me a while to feel like I can venture out of my shell and reach out to others-even in a basically anonymous way online. If I had read such negative and generally unhelpful comments a year ago, I would have probably spiraled into a deep depression and doubted myself, what I wanted in my home, as well as the talented professionals I have partnered with to design our home. It’s unfortunate that people can take the time to comment online without taking the time to read the post, think about whether they are giving any constructive advice, or if their tone is derogatory. Not to mention, ignoring the topic at hand. I have been a member since it was just gardenweb some 10+ years ago. From discussions about kitchens, baths, home building, and pools, I used to always find these forums helpful, informative, and a generally positive experience. I will try to remain optimistic that I will still experience that. Juls

I can't follow quite all of the specs and issues put forth, but if you have a freezer in your basement, just put a refrigerator down there, too. We have a big family, and a big refrigerator, but we also have an undercabinet frig in the kitchen and a garage refrigerator. I feel like you can find ways to store your extra refrigerated stuff, while keeping the most used items handy in a reasonably sized frig in the kitchen. What do we store in the extra refrigerators? My daughter uses the under cabinet frig to "hide" her favorite items, plus we keep some of our pets' food in there, and a few drinks. The garage frig holds sports drinks, sodas, many waters for our athletes, and grab n go items for the college boys so they can take stuff for the road when they go back and forth to their colleges. Also, our garage frig is a single door, so can hold a sheet cake and a huge turkey brining before Thanksgiving. It comes in really handy.
