For Newbies - Easy Instructions to Post Pics
Comments (36)Hi Folks, I wrote my original post in July of 2007 and as you might have figured out by now, Photobucket has changed the way you upload pics and then post them into the forum here. Whereas there used to be a box in which to browse, chose and upload your pics, well the box is still there but when you click on it and it opens up to where you file your photos on your computer, you can hold down the CTRL key and choose several photos at the same time and then upload them to photobucket. Next, it used to be when you clicked on the HTML code it popped up "copied." I've not uploaded pics in awhite so I had to click on that HTML Code box, then right click it and "copy" the code, then go back to the forum page, put your cursor in your msg box where you want the pic to appear, go to the top menu bar, click on Edit and then click Paste and the code appears your msg. It's only when you Preview Message and Submit Message do the pics appear in your post. If anyone needs more help with me, please let me (or others) and someone will help. If I'm not explaining this correctly or someone knows of a better, easier way to put the pics into msgs, please let me know also. I'm no expert on this that's for sure. Comments (13)Another web place to host pictures is with your ISP. My ISP gives me free webspace as part of my account. Its not a ton of space and its not easy to see how much space is left with my ISP. Yours may vary. Uploading can be super easy. I had an FTP client built into my desktop (cuteFtp) that was integrated with Windows explorer such that I could right-click on the file and have an option to Upload to My webspace. (I had to pre-size by hand though.) Then when I upgraded my desktop, cuteFTP was no longer working and I never got around to figuring it out. I have other FTP clients I can use to move files there. Nearly as easy, but no right-click. Probably ISP webspace is not for the average user, but a potentially easy option for some....See MoreHow to include photos in a post (revised 7/10/11))
Comments (3)I didn't mention this on the last thread because I thought it would have been too technical. When talking about 'size' of a digital photo, it can refer to two separate, though often related things. The physical size of the picture on the screen, and the file size of the information necessary to show the photo. Physically large pictures mess up the thread formatting. Large file sizes are the ones that take forever to download. So these two photos have the same file size, just the html commands determing photo size are different. The first is 240 px, the second is 1000. You can start to see some fuzziness in the second picture where there really isn't enough information....See MoreHow to include photos in a post (revised 8/7/11)
Comments (10)DtD: I thought that I'd covered that in this section: "Desirable sizes are either "thumbnails" which some hosting sites provide, or something close to 640 X 480 pixels. "Medium" or "Small" varies from program to program, so don't rely on it. (see corunum/Jane's discussion in the previous thread)." I'll try to make it stronger in the next revision, probably using the 640 X 480 pixels size as a maximum (unless someone has a better suggestion). Of course, these are just recommendations, and people can't be forced to abide by them. I don't want to make the process onerous, I'd rather someone just get a photo posted for the first time even if it's really big, and then the next ones can be posted in a more suitable size. Once they're past that first hurdle of posting they can work on the details. Claire...See MoreDavidrobert1
