But, it really is the bad percentage that we often react to, isn't it. I'm sure you've had a ton of profiteers stealing your work, but are they really the majority of people using your work? (and by using, I mean, visiting your site, reading your site, looking at your photos.) I would guess the majority, were people who -didn't- take your stuff, and just really enjoy your website. (How many hits does your site get and how many instances of copyright violation are there?) I can totally see how you'd get tired and frustrated from having to protect your copyright. Your site was one of the first that I found when I was looking for more information on Old Roses. (Google quite likes you as I'm sure you know.) And it's your choice. So please don't think I'm blaming you. But something doesn't necessarily "need to change". It has to change for you because that's where you're personal line of "enough is enough" is, but it's a choice. All the emails I've gotten over the years, and the friends I've made from being online and the unusual opportunities,... those to me outweigh my personal profiteers. Everyone has to make their own choices as to where that "worth it" line is. Like I said before, I have friends (who are artists) who don't post their work online for these reasons. campanula - I think if someone owns the copyright to something, it should not be stolen, according to the legal rules of copyright (whatever that is in each instance). I don't think that it's related to how famous or even how talented the owner of the copyright is. I don't really understand why we even have to argue the worth or how "professional" something is. If you create a work of art, you own the copyright. Even if it is hideous or amateurish. on the notion of taking photos of people's private gardens without permission. I must admit that over the past few months, when I drive by a house with a particularly beautiful garden, I stop and quickly take a photo. I've been saving these photos in a private folder on my computer. At one point, I'd thought about posting a thread sharing the photos so that other people could admire or be inspired by them, but then, I was also worried that perhaps by chance, one of the garden owners might see the thread and somehow be annoyed that I'd posted a photo of their garden without permission. So I haven't, and probably wont.

Karin, what a good idea about the natural juice shop and coffee shop. Our educational garden is in it's infancy, and some of our satelite programs are, too, like our compost bins, our worm bins, our soil health, our insectary, etc. I asked our local salad shop if I could have their vegetable waste for our worms, which is working out well. I pick up vegetable matter outside their back door at least once a week. (I hope they don't get sick of the same thing day after day!!) Our office staff, teachers and preschool age students also help by composting their appropriate materials. I know where a juice bar neighbors a coffee shop, so it WOULD be a good resource: fast and efficient. Thanks for the tip!!

I save all six pages as one file, so I don't upload them individually. It all goes together. I've always called the file "index.htm". I pasted the instructions below that I found. When I follow these directions, I get a box saying "cannot save 'index.htm'. The folder is marked as 'read only'." I checked the publisher file, and it is not marked "read only". The other day, when I first tried uploading after making the changes to the Publisher file, I didn't get that message, but I may have been doing something differently. I've found different instructions and tried all kinds of things. When I click on properties for the network ftp location, it says "This server does not support changing file permissions". When I right-click the files in the ftp location, and look at "properties", it says "does not support changing file permissions". The file in the ftp location that is called "index.htm" shows that it was last updated in June 2009, so I must have done something to a different ftp file the other day when some of the changes to the Publisher index.htm file uploaded. I too work home healthcare as a hospice nurse for over 5 years and everything she said is spot on. The fewer types of flooring the easier/better. Less risk of fall, no throw rugs, and even area rugs become problematic if you have to navigate around them. Lots of low storage so they don't have to feel like a burden asking someone to get something for them. Also don't let builders tell you 30" is adequate and meets ADA requirements for door way widths...while it is an acceptable minimum getting wheelchairs through are a PITA. A lot really like the rocker style light switches as they are easier than a traditional switch, lever style or even oblong doorknobs are easier than a round doorknob. How will they open the window if in a wheelchair, the hand crank windows are easier for them, though my experience is in end of life care I know a few of our families used them and really liked them. I have seen a bathroom in a patient's home that was very cool, they had a large bathroom and modified it to be accessible for her husband. The cabinet "vanity" was on caster type wheels so she could move it out from under the sink and he could roll his w/c under and shave himself. They had a decorative top they could put on it if they wanted to leave it out as a piece of furniture or remove it and roll it back under the sink to look like a standard vanity.
