another question on uploading

Thanks for the help on my index files. I finally got that to work. I have all the images related to this site on the server, however, only the text shows. May I ask your advice again? I am so close on this. I know it is likely something simple again. Thank you so much! Here is the site - nothing but text and all the images are only little "x" marks. Deb

This is the URL for your image:

http://home.cinci.rr.com/jamielee/image001.gif

This is what you have in your img src code:

JAMIE%20LEE%20JEANwebpage_files/image001.gif

If I use the top URL in an image source code I get this:

so it is a valid URL.

You can put the full URL in the img src code but as long as the image files are in the same directory as the html file you only need the image name in the img src code. Use the full URL for the image if the image is in a different directory from than the html file.

When you use Word to create the HTML, it puts all of the images in their own folder(directory). It also writes the HTML code this way as well.

When you uploaded the images, you loaded them into the main directory. If you are using FTP, upload that whole folder named "webpage_files", that will give you the correct directory and your pictures should work without having to change the code.

If you aren't FTPing, but uploading each image seperately; First create a new directory and call it "webpage_files", then proceed to upload the images into that directory. Or it might be possible to move the files in the main directory to that new directory.

I've read that you are not to clean the fiilter media...ever. I built my own biofilter...not a skippy but I am about to add one due to all the good things I have heard about them. My pond is in the stage of green pea soup also. I have heard it is a stage that ponds go through this time of year. I am trying the quilt batting. I have it in the top layer of my biofilter and it is catching quite a bit of the algae. I purchased mine from Michaels. I also am using it around my pump. I am letting it run two hours around the pump because it gets pretty dirty quickly. This works great to catch all the small algae. You have to be careful to not catch the batting in the pump. I guess we will see how good it works. I'm thinking about building something that would add some type of barrier between the batting and pump to avoid this problem. Probably a project for tomorrow. Good luck! If anyone has good ideas to get the pond clear I am open to the hints as well!

georgez5il, I can sympathise to a very limited extent with the way that you feel about this particular posting, but cannot agree with your conclusions regarding being unable to answer the query in its totality. I feel that some information is better than non, and that other posters' are subsequently given chance to pick up the slack so-to-speak. I am also in favour of group involvement and this post gives an excellent opportunity for precisely that. Apologies for sounding a bit "preachy" on this one. ;-)

Zone 4a and this will be my fifth year doing this. I start around new years, typically with hardy perennials in my zone, shurbs/trees and seeds that i don't really care about (e.g. old seeds). I typically wait until late February to start putting out a lot of my annuals, and I leave the following til the end of march or early april: zinnias sunflowers ornamental millet abutilon dolichos lablab morning glories 4 o'clocks cosmos and pretty much anyhting tropical in origin Most of these will sprout if sown earlier, but their foliage is sufficiently tender that I lose them in the cold nights we have earlier in the winter/spring. If I wait til then, they typically don't pop til mid april or later and i typically don't have to worry about the seedlings freezing then.

Reduce the file size of your picture before attempting to upload. This will speed up things considerably! It hasn't been too long ago since I was on dial-up - I remember it well! LOL! I always reduced the size of my pics and could upload and email a few at a time without much trouble. It wasn't super duper speedy - but it was manageable. I used the "Windows Power Toy" file size reducer when I uploaded pictures. If I emailed pictures, I went directly to the picture (in it's folder in the Pictures file on my computer) right clicked on it and selected send to then selected mail recipient and the attach files popped up and asked me what size to re-size the pictures. I always picked the smallest option. I am attaching a link to an earlier thread where RavenCajun talked about Windows PowerToy gadgets for resizing pictures. She has the link along with them.
