Wow, weedmeister, you and others have really put some time and thought into my problem, and I am so grateful. The update, not much yet I'm afraid, but I think it's going to come down to either a swap for a GE (a bit small for our existing cutout) the Electrolux (not available till April 18th) or go with our Kitchenaid. Their customer service was horrible, I'm not allowed to speak to technical support, I have to have a certified tech make the call for me. In any case, I think we're leaning towards implementing weedmeister's suggestions. In answer to your questions, we have a 36 in cab, the heat shield is a problem in that it will touch the installed oven, but there will be about 4 inches either side of the oven in which that heated air - if that grill thing is a vent, can circulate down and out. We're also thinking of using Dan's suggestion of mineral wool board to keep the oven heat from radiating - my contractor is thinking of doing the same thing in his set-up because the self-clean function makes his cooktop go crazy too. In addition, we'll install a vent in the outside wall, perhaps we can find one that will activate with a difference in heat?? Perhaps knock a hole in the cabinet wall too. Fyi, Bosch, who I think makes the KitchenAid components, told me first you could install an oven under their unit, then when I rang back for something else, said in fact it wouldn't work, because of the size of the junction box... not the ventilation! I despair, how to get decent information? Also my Sears salesman said he'd had no idea of the cooktop/oven conflict. So much for manufacturer's policy of referring you to your dealer! Sounds like noise is a big driver for you in your range hood selection. A few factors contribute to a noisy range hood: 1. Quality of blower used - most half decent range hoods today use pretty good blowers 2. Probably the most important factor contributing to range hood noise is duct issues - to small, to many bends or just badly installed. 3 Another issue is peoples desire to have the biggest cfm blower system they can find - for example 1200cfm through a 36" hood will be unbelievably loud on max settings even with ideal ducting (we have tested it so we know) - why - because the blower is pulling 1200 blocks of air 1'x1'x1' every single minute through the filters - if the filter capture area is small (36" hood) its gonna be a real noisy airflow experience. So its crictical to match the blower to the ducting, to the btu output of the range and to the range hood size. 4. The other critcial element is a well designed range hood structure where the air is getting pulled through after the filters - if the inside of the hood behind the filters has a lot of projections and things hanging out the air is going to bang against them - noise 5. Loves2read, My plumber, also says Delta is the best. My brother, who lives in Nacogdoches, very acidic area, has Delta Victorian in ORB and the finish has not been an issue. They have had it 12 years or so. My mother also has it in polished chrome. I have had the delta polished chrome with brass cross handles and the finish on them is still perfect after 17 years. They had the brilliant/lifetime finish. Since we are doing our remodel( tear out is Dec 1), One of our top choices was in the Delta traditional line was Cassidy. Cassidy does not make a handshower in the collection but Delta makes traditional accessories line that the color completely matches. Another choice, that does have a hand shower was Delta Addison. Delta also has a great feature that instead of having a separate shower head and hand held, the handheld is part of the showerhead. I am putting this in the boys bathroom It is wonderful in my parent's guest bath and our teenagers love it when they stay over. It comes in other collections. This is just the one we did, called Trinsic. Because my whole family has always had success with Delta in longevity for function and finish, for this remodel, we are going with Brizo, a Delta company.
