Thumbnails, linking to larger view, Irfanview

I saw a posting on one of the garden forums, where someone had several small pictures, and the words, "Click on image for larger view". I asked how it was done, and the reply I got was something to the effect that it was done in Irfanview, with thumbnails linking to the larger picture. I went to Irfanview, and found the thumbnails, but nowhere can I find anything about creating links.
Is anyone familiar with this that can provide simple step by step instructions?

| Hi John and Larry, first you will need two URL's, one for the thumbnail and one for the large picture. You also need the code to post them. I have given you an example and the code. The URL must be linked to the internet and must start http:....etc., not www. and not from your computer files. Copy the code exactly as is, including quote marks and spaces, add the URL's of your choice, where noted. <![CDATA[<a href="LARGE PICTURE URL GOES HERE"><img src="THUMBNAIL URL GOES HERE"></a>]]>

The one part that didn't seem to work was the part about click here. When I look at yours, it says CLICK HERE under the small picture, but I actually had to click ON the image. I typed in the 2 URLs, as you said, and it worked. I then typed in the part about CLICK HERE, as you showed it. On preview, the words CLICK HERE did not appear on mine. However, clicking on the small image did work. I went back and made a correction, typing in the words, "Click on image for a larger view". |

| John, I'm sorry, my goof. I should have said 'Click on Image'.... If you want to have the text active:
<![CDATA[Add a <BR> and the font text code, after the last gif and before the </A>]]> If you do not want a border around your picture, or you want a wider border: Add: border="0" (for no border) or a number from 1 to 7 instead of the '0', between the last quote mark and the > of the Thumbnail gif. The code will underline the text and remove the border from the image. Email me if you need more help. Joy

| Thanx, thanx, thanx, Joy. I think I'm in overload, now. Just being able to do the linkage is fine, to start. What I would like to find out next, sometime, is how to line up thumnails ALONGSIDE each other in the initial screen. John |

| Hi John, good work. I would like to see the thumbnails just a little tiny bit larger...on my screen they are about 1 x 1, pretty small, try 60 x 60 or 70 x 70. Also, you might want to add the height and width to the large picture for faster loading (height is always added first). Right click: Picture
Click: Properties....the dimensions will show. The first picture would be...

O.K. Now the questions.
1. I upped the size on the thumbnails, from 50 to 65. How come they still came out the same small size? 2. The middle thumbnail is squished. (The original is wider than it is high.) What can I do about that? |

| John, one thing. The purpose of thumbnails is to have a faster loading picture and give the viewers a 'sneak peek'. I make 2 separate pictures - one the full sized .jpg, and another one a thumbnail but much smaller - in the 5-10 k range. 2 separate pictures and if the big one is named (for ex.) hibiscus_yellow.jpg the thumbnail is named hibiscus_yellow_sm.jpg. I add the 'sm' to designate it is a smaller .jpg. Then you will get small, fast loading thumbnails linking to the better-quality, full sized .jpg. |
