I'm trying to renew my domain registry for my website but keep getting told that my name doesn't exactly match the owner of the website. I can't remember what name I used, spelling etc....is there a place I can look this info up? Also, can I just let my domain registry lapse and pick it up with a different company later? It's not a very popular site and is an unusual name.

A lot of place's if you do a search for the name they also have a 'whois' feature to look to see who its registered to.Thier are also some sites(forget the name off hand)that the second its free it grabs it for another person waiting for it.

Have you figured it out yet? If not, Domainsearch.com is one place you can find the registered owner's (your) name. BTW, Snap Names.com is the one that grabs the domain name for another person waiting on it.
