Alexa, Congrats on the community garden! You'll have more of a problem getting people to weed than can, I think. I believe you are in PA in the Philly area. I would definitely contact Penn State University, Dept. of agriculture and food sciences.I was born, raised, and spent my first 35 years there. They were always helpful to me (still are, they have great resources for beekeepers). And if an old 50 year old woman that learned to open kettle can, or (GASP) oven can our produce, you can learn very easily, you have no bad habits to break! I am in awe of the fact that some people have no local source for jars, lids, pickling salt or pectin. Even my little local groceries way overstock, and it's available year round. I can drive 10 miles into Cleveland, TN, the extension office has a COMMERCIAL cannery. You make an appointment, she books you by how soon the produce you have will last, and they have 4 big pressure canners that hold about 30-50 jars. I have only been there a few times, she tests my canner gauge for free, I prefer to do my stuff at home. But anyway I have been there long enough to lust after the motorized tomato juicers, all the commercial food processors,etc. AHHH, I lust after such things, but since I can't have them I'll stick with my own kitchen. I too got a flyer home from school which Had a well know area University name on it, and mentions of IRD throughout it. I looked at the website mentioned on the flyer, and found some great testimonials, and information. The web site looked like a part of the Universities web site. However, many of the links on the website didn't work... like the home link and links to other areas about the university. I called the number on the flyer, and it was definately not the university. The person on the phone was very nice, and professional, she asked some questions about my daughter, and told me that she could definately benefit from the program. At a couple of points during the conversation it sounded as if she were reading from a script. I wanted information, which I received. But, when the call was about to end she wanted a credit card number so she could enroll my daughter in the class. She explained that this is their heavy enrollment period, and wouldn't want us to loose out because the class was full. At this point there was no way I was giving a number until I could check this out further. For anyone looking to find out more information I would definately recommend The Teachers Corner. I still haven't decided to enroll my daughter in these classes, but I will certainly continue to do research. I have emailed some people in our school system to see if anyone can give me any information.

Finally, after almost a week of trying, I got in touch with a supervisor, and even though it was hard to get a hold of someone, I am very satisfied with the service and resolution that was reached. I explained the class level situation to the supervisor, and she said that my son would be able to move to the higher level next summer without an additional charge. He won't be finishing this years class, but he already has the skills they teach. I also have to add that the teacher my son had was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable and recognized that my son was in the wrong class. She wanted what was best for him, and that meant a lot to me. Overall, I'm a satisfied customer.
