TV Built in with large opening for older TV

We are buying a home that has gorgeous built ins, except for one problem. The area for the TV is very large, and I suspect it is because it was meant to hold an older CRT type of TV. We plan to put an LCD in the opening and I'm wondering what we should do with the rest of the space? I'm worried that we wouldn't be able to get the stain correct if we just added doors.

You could make a black fabric scrim and place the subwoofer behind it and the TV.
