ceiling clouds insulation panels

The house we recently bought has a media room in the finished basement. Part of it is beneath a bedroom, and we've noticed that the sound carries upstairs even when the volume is not particularly high. The basement ceilings are sheetrocked (the media room sheetrock is painted flat black.)

I'm looking for some way to reduce sound transmission to the main floor, and have run across a product called "ceiling clouds" which are suspended accoustical panels. Has anyone here used them? I've also seen fabric covered foam wall panels that look like they could be installed on a ceiling.

Can you suggest a DIY solution that doesn't require removing or replacing the existing ceiling? Thanks!
