Need a custom sized speaker grill or plexi glass

I want to make this area look super clean with none of the electronics or cabling visible below the TV. However, I need to be able to hear the center channel speaker that's in there and I need to be able to use the remote controls to operate all of the A/V equipment in there that use IR remotes. The Tivo box shown is soon to be replaced by a Zino HD if that matters.

I want to put in a backlight behind the TV and all I want to see is a halo glow around the TV rather than see all the components and wires when it's lit up.

The thick black coax cable you see on the right for the indoor antenna will either be replaced with a thin/flat white cable that can be better hidden or I will see if the antenna will work from behind the TV or I will relocate the antenna to the attic.

Would a custom speaker grill cut to fit below the TV be better or would a piece of black acrylic be better? Something else?

It needs to be easy to remove and replace so I can pop in a DVD or Blu-ray disc without a lot of hassle.

Where would be a good place to order it? I would need something about 41 inches by 10 inches to fit below the TV mounted on an articulating arm.

This is what it looks like now.

You would need to make a false wall in there to mount the TV to. Below the framing of the false wall you can make a "drawer" that slides out for ease of access and replacement of components if need be.

This is a custom job, where you will need to order the material online and fit as needed.

Azlighting is correct. If you or your husband are handy, you could build a shelf unit....(actually a short, long, narrow box to set your TV on) It would fit in the space you have...your TV would sit on it...and doors that open could be made to fit the box. Use either caning material, glass (you can use the remote through it but components will show) or solid wood. My husband just built an entertainment center (our 3rd) and we left the shelves open but the wires/plug in is hidden behind the back.

My biggest concern would be to ensure all the components are receiving enough ventilation to keep them operating properly. If that is new carpeting, I would also be concerned about the fuzz from it drifting into the ventilation holes as well. The Zino's have also been known to require good ventilation.

It appears that the design of the area had in mind placing the television above the fireplace and using the built in recess area for the equipment. Installing an AC outlet above the fireplace and providing a means to run cables from behind the television down to the recess would create a clean installation.

With your current placement, you would need to create a fabric panel on the bottom to allow for the remote IR signal (may require testing with some samples), reasonable air flow, and acoustic transparency for the center speaker. I would suggest maybe mounting the speaker to the top of the recess for better sound imaging. Obviously, bringing all the cables into the cabinet directly would clean things up quite a bit.

For the television back lighting effect, you would want to use LEDs for their cooler operation - I have seen kits available for this that have everything you need.

    Good luck!
