Antibiotics for Duck w/ Respiratory Infection?
Comments (5)Hello Gennym, I'm so sorry to hear about Troy. That is heartwrenching...especially after he overcame so many physical hurdles. I know some people would think we're odd for being so concerned about a duck...but I'm sure you're like me..unable to sit by and watch something so innocent and helpless suffer like that. So, I have a good update on William. I convinced the vet by me to continue where the vet a h alf hour away left off..and taht is to continue w/ the antibiotic injections for th enext 10 days..every other day. Do yo uknow that William has gained almost a pound since Saturday when I have him at the vet? Thats like a person gaining 20 pounds. The day after the 1st injection, he showed huge improvements. He was trying to climb into his drinking water ..so I have been giving him water therapy a few times a day now..he loves it...basically just letting him sit in the kiddie pool and splash around. The antibiotics will continue to clear up his lungs and his eye..but i am still converned about this foot. Sometimes I think I'm seeing some improvement in that he is able to sit up on both hocks..but other times he's still dragging it under him..and it doesn't web out..it's all curled up. The vet today said that even if it is nerve damage there is still a chance he will regain some if not all movement. She said her dog got hit by a car once and had nerve damage and could'nt move it's leg for a long time but wound up regaining use of it. So we'll see... I do think the water therapy is helping the leg and of course is letting him be a duck ..not a chicken sitting in a cage on a pile of hay. I can't believe how much I love this little guy..pekin ducks are so sweet and they seem to have a smile on their faces at all times. Tomorrow or the say after..depending on how he is..I plan to take him into the pasture where his 3 siblings are for a visit. The other 3 survived the ordeal just fine..but William almost drowned. There are other ducks who live in the yard where WIlliams's hutch is..nto sure what kind they are..they're black and white speckled..very funny..they travel in a p ack...they ahve been going over to William's hutch and looking in at him and quacking..so i hoep that is making him feel less lonely. Can't wait to see how the reunion w/ his sibs will go...eventually when he's 100% I plan to release him back w/ them in the pasture. Ok..enough duck talk..i'm a crazie... On to my cat who just had a tooth extracted today and is still recovering from the anesthesia..she's sitting there staring at the wall...poor baby. Comments (19)I mention this because no one said it yet... If anyone is getting yeast infections often, there is a good chance your body's pH is off (usually way too acidic). You can get pH paper on amazon to check (you can get a roll for about 6 bucks), I think some homeopathic stores also sell the paper. Get a roll that is in the range of 3 to 8 and spit on a piece of the paper at a time when you haven't eaten in 2 hours (otherwise you'll be getting a false reading). It should be around 7 on a person with a good normal pH. If its crazy low, like 3 to 5, that is way too acidic. You're as tart as coca cola! To fix this, you will need to go on an alkalizing diet. It will take a long time, but it will fix the problem permanently when you get your pH back up (even just up to 6 will fix your troubles). You can search on google for alkalizing diet to get the specifics, but basically you eat very little to no meat, and cut out all sugar, and no alcohol, tea or coffee. Milk and eggs are fine to eat. After about a year of that diet you will be able to reintroduce some of the bad foods if you want because you will have gotten the Ph up a bit by then and you'll be okay. If you can't stand to not have meat, give up the sugar. If you can't stand to give up the sugar, give up the meat. Try to be reasonable - both of those (meat and sugar) are very acidifying, so unfortunately, if your pH is way too acidic, one of those groups will have to go for awhile if you want to be rid of this thing, so if you can't stand to give up either, just limit yourself and eat as little of them as you can....See MoreQuestion for women
Comments (11)Here are some typical causes for a yeast infection in women. Poor Personal Hygiene- can introduce yeast spores from the intestines to the vaginal area. Antibiotics-are a primary cause for yeast or Candida overgrowth. Antibiotics change the balance between populations of micro organisms They also are responsible for wiping out the good and bad bacteria in your body. Douching-Unfortunately douching washes away the good bacteria in the vagina responsible for keeping yeast under control. The vaginal tissue becomes inhabitable for healthy bacteria. Physiologically, the vagina is designed to cleanse itself. Poor Immune System- weaknesses in the immune system will make it for Candida or yeast to thrive. Diet-poor nutrition can actually worsen your yeast infection, because high sugar foods alone can sustain food for the yeast to live. Tight clothes-such as panty hose, stockings can create the warm environment for the yeast to grow. Air is suffocated to the vagina. Birth Control- can throw a woman's hormone levels off balance causing the vaginal tissue susceptible to candida growth. Comments (3)Well, it depends, honestly. It could be several things. Vaginitis, irritated vulva, a UTI could cause her to lick because of discomfort. Is she spayed? If not it could be heat related or an infection that needs attention ASAP. Does she have any discharge or redness? Smell your dogs feet, that might be the 'cheesy' smell. For some reason a lot of people will agree their dogs feet smell like doritos or corn chips. Although foul odors accompany many infections in dogs. Unfortunately because it can be one of several infections or conditions, I wouldn't think it would be a good idea to try and self treat this time. I would take her in to get her cleared of some of the more serious issues and treated. I typically don't like to run to the vet either, without letting something play it's self out for a bit, or look up any info I can - but in this case I would probably go in. If she's got a UTI it could spread if it goes untreated, or any crystals associated with it could quickly form into stones. Or if she's already got stones she could face a life-threatening blockage which requires emergency surgery. I don't know what the likely hood of it being serious VS non serious - but because dogs can't tell us exactly what the problem is and often don't show any major signs until it's serious, this is something I wouldn't play around with. Good luck! I hope it is something simple to cure and your furbaby feels better soon!...See Morelittleonefb
