 o
arthritis in the ribs??

I have a very tender area on my upper chest near the breast bone. Hurts from having a mammogram but the Dr. says it is arthritis ... is arthritis in the ribs common & why is it tender without even moving or touching the area? I guess arthritis in that area would show up on an X-ray like any other area with arthritis like the hand, spine, etc.?

I thought arthritis occurred in the joints, but what do I know?

Did you do anything that might have caused you to fracture a rib, like putting a lot of pressure there?

No, no rib damage ... just VERY tender when touched.

Sounds like it could be costochronditis. It is an inflammation of the cartilage where the ribs join the sternum.
Take an anti-inflammatory and see if that helps. It should get better without treatment but sure is painful until it heals.
